St. Michael’s is seeking Principal – Budget, Finance, and Accounting candidates for an anticipated federal program. In this role, you will provide senior leadership and subject matter expertise across the full range of financial management functions. This includes supporting program and budget formulation, budget execution, financial operations, and accounting compliance. You will play a key role in strengthening fiscal accountability, ensuring compliance with federal standards, and providing actionable financial insights to senior government leadership. LOCATION Fort Belvoir, VA (Full Time On-Site) Who You Are

Previous experience directly supporting Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) highly preferred Minimum 10+ years of progressive accounting and audit experience, preferably with direct DoD program exposure. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential Demonstrated expertise in budget formulation, execution, and financial reporting. Knowledge of DoD financial management regulations, PPBE process, and federal financial systems. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Active Top Secret security clearance (TS/SCI preferred) Primary Responsibilities

Lead the development, formulation, and execution of annual and multi-year budgets for DoD programs. Provide financial analysis and reporting to support programmatic decisions, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions. Oversee accounting operations to ensure accurate tracking of obligations, expenditures, and cost allocations. Prepare budget justifications, cost estimates, and financial forecasts in support of program requirements and acquisition strategies. Ensure compliance with DoD financial management regulations, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Partner with program managers and senior leadership to align budgetary resources with strategic objectives. Monitor budget execution, assess variances, and ensure efficient resource utilization. Support program planning and performance reviews with financial insights and scenario modeling. Mentor and guide junior finance and accounting staff to build organizational financial management capacity.
