Requirements: High School Diploma or its equivalent. ACTIVE Florida Law Enforcement Compliance/Certification of Equivalency of Training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. VALID Driver’s License from the Department of Motor Vehicles. For Law Enforcement Investigator II: Three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience. Preferences: A degree from an accredited college or university. Special consideration may be given to bilingual verbal and written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission. Note: Correctional Officer and Correction Probational Officer Certifications do not meet the requirements of the job description. College education can be substituted at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year required experience. Individuals that have less than three years of sworn law enforcement experience may be considered at a Law Enforcement Investigator I, depending upon the agency’s needs. The Division requires you to live no more than 50 miles from your residence to your assigned duty station. The mileage will be determined by geodesic distance (direct line) from your address to the assigned office address. Candidate Profile (application) must be completed in its entirety. LEI I Salary 60,000.00; LEI II Salary 63,000.00 Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle. Interpersonal Skills: flexible, professional, team-oriented, tactful, ethical, and goal-driven. Training and Proficiency: use state-issued equipment safely, knowledge of Florida statutes and division procedures, complete mandated training, provide training to new investigators. Knowledge: current investigative practices, surveillance principles, and laws governing use; understand criminal justice system. Ability: interview and interrogate, preserve evidence; effective written and oral communication; prioritize and manage time; work in dangerous or stressful situations; operate a motor vehicle. Skills: interact professionally with citizens, suspects; safe use of equipment; basic computer skills. Other KSAs: knowledge of fire behavior, ACISS; ability to interpret burn patterns and determine cause and origin; skills in documenting fire scenes with sketches, diagrams, photography; maintain specialized equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Member of DFS Disaster Response Team; may be required to travel on short notice Conduct extensive investigations: leads, interviews, search warrants, arrests Follow-up latent investigations; interview witnesses; interrogate suspects Identify and arrest suspects; present information to prosecutors; provide expert testimony Supervise confidential sources; collect and preserve evidence Surveillance and undercover capabilities as needed Provide investigative support to DFS and other agencies Develop strategic and tactical intelligence; monitor prosecutions and forfeitures Background investigations on potential DFS employees Liaise with other entities; disaster-related duties as requested

Planning and Organization
