Location: St. Joseph’s Hospital Main & Children’s – Tampa, FL
Facility: BayCare Health System, Laboratory Administration – HSS
Shift: 8-Hour Shifts (Hours Vary)
Schedule: PRN | No Weekends | No On-Call
Remote Work: Hybrid Option

Role Overview As a
Genetic Counseling Assistant , you will provide essential administrative and patient support to BayCare’s Genetic Counseling team. You will coordinate appointments, manage referrals, and assist with pre-authorization and medical record collection. This role also supports patients directly by handling inquiries, facilitating follow-up, and assisting with documentation and testing workflows. Strong communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Genetic Counselor with administrative and patient care tasks.
Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage referrals, and coordinate follow-up.
Obtain patient consent, records, testing information, and insurance pre-authorization.
Assist patients with inquiries, follow-up communications, and escorting when applicable.
Enter patient data and results into tracking systems and databases.
Complete testing order entry and prepare documents for EMR scanning.
Collaborate with counselors, clinicians, and patients to facilitate clear communication and smooth clinic operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field
Experience
Required:
1 year related experience (may substitute for Bachelor’s degree)
Preferred:
1 year healthcare or medically related experience
