Responsibilities
The Counselor is responsible for direct client care and the implementation of evidence-based readiness and transition programming services for a caseload of participants.
Assess and identify clinical issues and create clear objectives and goals; track and document participant progress in case reports while meeting internal and external contract standards and policies.
Complete comprehensive assessment of inmates’ substance abuse history and treatment requirements and develop individualized treatment plans; document all assessments and planning.
Present individual counseling and group lectures weekly on Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Parenting Skills, Life Skills, Criminal & Addictive Behaviors, and Co-occurring disorders.
Facilitate psycho-educational/behavior modification groups using principles of the “What Works” system; document attendance, participation, and progress in the Company database.
Conduct risk/need assessments and create individual treatment plans for each participant; meet regularly with participants and document progress or regress.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation including intake summaries, group notes, discharge summaries, treatment plans, and updates; ensure timely updates to therapeutic logs and the Company database.
Identify problem areas that may impact treatment completion and guide participants to develop strategies to overcome obstacles.
Communicate participant progress to customers as appropriate and maintain a case file per program participant when required.
Utilize crisis intervention techniques and conflict resolution strategies; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human services, Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
Preference given to experience within a correctional setting.
Ability to interact professionally in both individual and group counseling settings.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with a team of professionals and implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software used by the department.
Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities; ability to perform financial management and budgeting; change management, project management, problem-solving, leadership, and management skills.
