Posting Details Title: Counselor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) Campus Location: Fresno City College Start Date: To be determined; ongoing pool – applications reviewed as vacancies arise. Responsibilities
The Counselor will provide a full range of counseling services for a diverse student population, including academic, career, transfer and personal counseling. Responsibilities include: Providing comprehensive counseling services for students on an appointment basis (academic, career, personal and life transitions) Conducting group counseling sessions, orientations, and workshops Assisting students in clarifying educational goals, selecting courses, and developing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) Monitoring student progress through electronic data systems Maintaining close working relationships with program/instructional faculty, feeder high schools, and community resource agencies Working with diverse students to emphasize educational planning and transfer preparation Keeping abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories, including integration of technology to support learning and career objectives Providing counseling services for students on academic probation or disqualification Delivering counseling and related services across career/education planning, orientation, transfer, veteran services, student recruitment, and personal counseling Teaching in counseling classes for job preparation, career planning, study skills, transfer preparation, or group dynamics Participation in multimedia classroom presentations, advising, large-group presentations, retention strategies, and use of technology in counseling Supporting the implementation of student success strategies Participating in committee work, strategic planning, and student learning outcomes assessment Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Services and related to faculty responsibilities Flexibility for extended day, evening, and weekend assignments Maintaining effective communication with students and staff Minimum Qualifications
Must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students in relation to equity-minded practices. Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; or A valid California Community College Credential; or Equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency) Notes: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed fields and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. If degrees do not exactly match the listed requirements, you must petition for equivalency. Desirable Qualifications
Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities Experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion Willingness to examine and improve practices to support racially minoritized students Experience working with diverse student populations and with various technologies in instruction and counseling Ability to develop Student Educational Plans (SEPs) and to design and present counseling workshops and orientation sessions Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes and student development theories Experience using counseling and data systems (Datatel, SARS, or similar) Ability to work with faculty, access program resources, and collaborate on student success programs Ability to interpret articulation agreements and transfer requirements Salary and Benefits
