Position Summary Counselors are responsible for delivering individual, group, and family counseling services. They complete documentation for the clinical record, including the implementation of the Individual Treatment/Service Plan, psychosocial assessments, daily notes, and reviews. Counselors attend interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and monitor treatment throughout the client's care. Under the supervision of a Program Director or designated Counselor Level II or III, they assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation to ensure safety. They also assess crisis situations, make referrals, and implement evidence-based curricula for counseling.

Essential Job Functions

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat substance use disorders using counseling and psychotherapy.

Screen for emotional, mental, and behavioral conditions, and refer to QMHP as needed.

Assess needs and decide on appropriate counseling modalities.

Conduct client interviews and assessments for program suitability.

Maintain awareness of insurance stipulations for billable services.

Provide crisis intervention and interpret WestCare procedures.

Provide direct counseling, monitor client behavior, and create Treatment/Service Plans.

Report incidents and participate in discharge planning.

Complete documentation in the Electronic Health Record system.

Participate in team meetings and follow policies and procedures.

Assist in hiring decisions and ensure consistent attendance.

Certifications/Licenses

Must apply for a CADC-Intern certificate in Nevada and maintain CEUs biannually.

Pass background checks.

Education

Associate Degree in social work, psychology, education counseling, or similar recognized field.

Experience and Competencies

Maintain high ethical standards.

Avoid dual relationships with clients.

Comply with laws and regulations.

Exhibit excellent communication skills.

Work independently and as part of a team.

Show initiative.

Working Conditions

Indoor and outdoor settings, group and individual sessions.

Minimum 40 hours/week, with additional hours as needed.
