Overview
Safe Harbor Estate Law is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Estate Planning Attorney to join a client-focused legal team. As an Estate Planning Associate Attorney, you will work closely with clients under the guidance of more senior attorneys. Your responsibilities will include advising on legal options, drafting estate planning documents, and ensuring compliance with both state and federal laws. In addition to estate planning, you may also handle probate proceedings, guardianship cases, and conservatorships, offering comprehensive legal support during times of transition or incapacity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Minnesota estate and tax law, excellent communication skills, and a client-first mindset. Responsibilities
Client Consultation and Strategy
Conduct client meetings to evaluate estate planning objectives and priorities.
Provide guidance on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and other key planning options.
Design customized estate plans that reflect each client’s family circumstances, asset portfolio, and long-term vision.
Document Drafting and Review
Prepare and examine legal documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney (financial and healthcare), and advance healthcare directives.
Verify that all documents accurately represent the client's wishes and comply with relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
Legal Research and Compliance
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of estate planning legislation, tax laws, and probate regulations.
Conduct in-depth research on complex issues such as estate taxation, gifting strategies, and asset protection.
Client Relationship Management
Foster and sustain strong relationships with clients and their families.
Partner with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive planning solutions.
Qualifications
Four-year university degree and a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school are required.
Active license to practice law in Minnesota.
2+ years of experience in estate planning.
Experience in client-facing legal work.
Experience working with high-net-worth clients and/or business succession preferred.
