Histotechnologist II role at Sutter Health Position Overview: Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of Pathology. Maintains competence in all routine histology procedures (e.g., embedding, sectioning, and routine automated staining) and advanced histology procedures (e.g., immunohistochemistry and histochemical staining); routine maintenance; slide/stain quality control; and basic troubleshooting. Duties may include receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimen/material; preparing and/or stocking department supplies and reagents; performing quality assurance tasks; producing frozen sections from specimens; and conducting training for routine histology practices. Responsibilities

Perform routine histology procedures (embedding, sectioning, routine automated staining) and advanced histology procedures (immunohistochemistry and histochemical staining). Maintain equipment and perform slide/stain quality control; troubleshoot basic issues. Receive, prepare, archive and/or retrieve specimens/materials as needed; stock department supplies and reagents. Perform quality assurance tasks and produce frozen sections from specimens as required. Provide training for routine histology practices. Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or General Education (GED). Typical Experience: 1 year of recent relevant experience. Skills and Knowledge: Advanced knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in histology. Quality of Work: Ability to perform duties accurately and reliably with sound judgment and problem solving related to assigned duties. Culturally Competent Communication: Ability to interact compassionately and effectively with individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors. Workflow Management: Ability to respond to fluctuations in volume and handle situations such as equipment or information system failures and shift hand-offs while maintaining specimen integrity. Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence. Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring patient privacy and safety. Job Details
