Overview

Work Shift: Day (United States of America). This position may travel to and support multiple hospitals and participate in ECMO coverage and in/out of hospital ECMO transport. Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Performs functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, and/or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of the patient. Demonstrates working knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment, anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanics of cardiopulmonary bypass on a daily basis. Recognizes and responds to critical situations, including proper communication with the attending surgeon. Administers medications, anesthetic gases and blood components as appropriate and makes therapy adjustments as conditions change. Documents aspects of cardiopulmonary bypass in an appropriate and timely manner. Maintains knowledge of cardioplegia delivery systems (antegrade, retrograde, cerebral perfusion). Assembles and prepares all perfusion equipment and supplies necessary for procedures. Demonstrates daily knowledge of autotransfusion, intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Maintains documentation of perfusion support, treatment, measurement, and/or supplementation. Prepares for cases by selecting supplies and assembling perfusion equipment; completes perfusion records and related paperwork accurately. Maintains equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to manufacturer recommendations; tracks supplies within the department. Communicates with patients and staff professionally; resolves interpersonal conflicts appropriately; promotes inclusiveness and clear communication. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with WellStar Health System policies and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree Equivalent from an accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion Program. Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

GCPL - Georgia Clinical Perfusionist BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor Additional License(s) and Certification(s)

If the candidate is a new graduate of an accredited perfusion program, they must complete American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification within 12 months of start date. Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 3 years experience (Preferred). Required Minimum Skills

Extensive knowledge of coronary heart disease, cardiac anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and clinical management of patients. Ability to work within a team environment with individuals of varying abilities and responsibilities. Must interact with physicians and provide interpretation of data. Ability to handle emergency and stressful situations and take call. Must have strong communication skills. Extensive knowledge of perfusion practices and equipment and cardiovascular surgery procedures and terminology.
