CT Technologist Weekender - Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center Main PT Days at Atrium Health Schedule: Weekend Days - Saturday & Sunday, 6:30am-7pm. Part time, 24 hours per week. Job Summary
The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency, including scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.
Major Responsibilities Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
Properly identifies patients (using two identifiers) and assists patients while offering a brief explanation of procedures. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets.
Interviews patients for a complete medical history. Reviews EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results.
Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Records contrast type and amount when requested.
Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes additional images or measurements as instructed.
Performs basic patient care functions. Notifies nursing personnel of changes in patient condition. Initiates life support measures when necessary. Assists in code blue procedures during emergencies.
Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures. Practices sterile technique and follows infection control policies.
Obtains medications or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner.
Practices radiation safety for self, staff, patients and visitors. Follows radiation safety standards.
Reports malfunctioning equipment and maintains knowledge and skills to work safely in an environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Adheres to fire and safety procedures. Attends in-service classes and required safety modules.
Works accurately and timely during crisis or emergency situations. Rotates shifts, including call back, holidays, and weekends. Adheres to attendance policy.
Operates radiology computer systems to enter orders and charges. Documents contrast administration in the MAR.
Maintains a clean, stocked work area and assists other medical personnel as needed during exams.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education, Certification / License, Work Experience Graduate of an ARRT-recognized Radiologic Technology program. ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and ARRT CT registry within one year of hire. Current CPR certification is required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires moderate to heavy physical effort lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting. May require reaching, bending, twisting, squatting or kneeling. Potential exposure to moving equipment and ionizing radiation; must follow radiation safety guidelines.
