This position is open to Colorado state residents and non-residents New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year. About the Work Unit

Region 3 Traffic is charged with ensuring the safe and functional operation of the State Highway System. The Traffic Unit ensures this operation with the use of traffic control signals, pavement markings, lighting, signage and other traffic control devices. This is achieved through capital improvement projects, routine maintenance, and immediate response to changing traffic control needs. About the Position

This position is located in Grand Junction. The position exists to make recommendations based on sound engineering practice and judgment during design, construction, maintenance and operation of the Region’s traffic control devices and highway system. This position is to use engineering judgment and all available appropriate references to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and requirements and engineering principles. Under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer, this position will apply and implement engineering theories, principles, and standards. Your duties and responsibilities

will include, but are not limited to, the following: Project Design, Development and Management

Apply current engineering principles and theories, design specifications, and federal, state, and local design standards to develop plan sets and specifications for traffic engineering projects. These Recommend what the scope and work of the project should be based upon safety, operational need, and budgetary constraints. Coordinate with various other units within the Region and Staff Branches to incorporate data from those units into the design Perform project scheduling and coordinate multiple project efforts to meet advertisement dates and direct personal and residency efforts to make the various schedules and budgets work. Resolution of Public Traffic Safety Concerns

Conduct engineering investigations and studies, write reports, make engineering recommendations of solutions. Use traffic engineering principles, engineering judgment, state and federal laws, guidelines and practices to engineer solutions. Consultant/Contract Management

Manage the work of consultants and local agencies in order to accomplish project completions. This includes prioritizing assignments required by the contract. Negotiate with consultants the work hours necessary to complete the work as defined in the scope of services and recommend approval of task orders or supplemental contracts required for consultant services. Technical Support

Conduct planning and engineering review of traffic analyses, studies, plans and specifications from a variety of sources (CDOT traffic, residencies, other departments, municipalities, counties, and developers). Review for compliance with engineering standards, CDOT incorporated references and practices. Make recommendations regarding required changes to achieve compliance. Reviews crash history and recommends appropriate countermeasures. Participate on CDOT committees, task forces, and/or steering committees to help CDOT implement improvements and meet department goals. Equal Opportunity Employer, including disabled and veterans.
