MTSI is seeking a highly motivated Communications Software Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, and optimization of advanced communication systems for an advanced air platform program. This role involves designing and implementing robust software solutions for secure communications, ensuring interoperability, scalability, and mission resilience in contested and dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in communication protocols, software engineering, and system integration to enhance mission capabilities and ensure operational success. Responsibilities
Communications Software Design & Development: Design, develop, and maintain software solutions to enable secure and reliable communication for advanced air platforms. Implement software for real-time, low-latency communication systems, including data links, tactical radios, and networked systems. Develop adaptive communication functionalities to meet mission-specific requirements. System Integration and Interoperability: Integrate communications software with mission systems, avionics, sensors, and aircraft subsystems. Ensure interoperability between air platform systems and secure ground-based or satellite-based communication networks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software with hardware and system requirements. Secure Communications: Implement cybersecurity measures to safeguard wireless communication channels against electronic warfare threats and cyberattacks. Ensure compliance with cybersecurity guidelines such as RMF (Risk Management Framework) and STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) standards. Testing and Validation: Develop and execute rigorous testing procedures to validate software performance in simulated and real-world mission scenarios. Diagnose and troubleshoot software issues, ensuring reliability and scalability under operational constraints. Optimization and Upgrades: Continuously improve system performance and reliability through code optimization and integration of emerging technologies. Evaluate user feedback and operational data to refine software capabilities. Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation, including software design, testing plans, and system assessments. Present technical findings and recommendations to program managers, engineers, and stakeholders. Qualifications
Required Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field; Master’s degree preferred. 7+ years of experience in communications software development, systems integration, or related fields. Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, or similar for real-time software systems. Expertise in communication protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, UDP, MIL-STD data links, RF systems, or SATCOM. Understanding of secure software development principles and communication security standards (e.g., encryption, authentication). Strong knowledge of systems integration and software-hardware interfacing. Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI. Desired 12+ years of experience in communications software development, systems integration, or related fields. Certifications that validate expertise in software development, cybersecurity, and systems engineering: CSSLP, CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, INCOSE CSEP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Developer, Certified RF Engineer. Familiarity with advanced communication technologies such as Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) or Link-16 Tactical Data Links. Experience with testing tools/environments such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Wireshark. Familiarity with defense communication frameworks like JTRS, SATCOM protocols, or High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryption (HAIPE). Knowledge of MIL-STD or aerospace standards related to communication systems integration. Seniority level
