As a Network Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, scalability, and security of LAUSD’s core network and telecommunications infrastructure. You will provide advanced incident response, optimize bandwidth usage across hundreds of school sites, and help shape the future of our district’s digital ecosystem. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in enterprise-scale networking while supporting the mission of public education at scale. Key Responsibilities
Provide incident response and root-cause analysis for core network and telecommunications systems. Monitor, audit, and optimize LAN/WAN capacity, ensuring adequate bandwidth for school sites. Implement and document configuration changes using enterprise service management tools. Conduct acceptance testing and ensure compliance with district standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve service delivery issues and recommend improvements. Assist with major upgrades, automation projects, and development of programmability scripts. Train and support IT staff with technical documentation and best practices. Audit and report on network assets and enforce software licensing compliance. Education
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in data communications, network engineering, computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, mathematics, telecommunications management, or a related field. Qualifying experience in addition to that listed below may be substituted for the required education on a year‑to‑year basis provided that the requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent is met. Four years of experience maintaining and supporting large-scale enterprise or service provider network infrastructures and services in the areas of LAN and WAN, Data Center Network, Internet, voice and converge services or Wired and wireless services. Two years of the aforementioned experience must have been in a position where issues were escalated to them by lower-level staff to be resolved. Special Notes
A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and use of a motor vehicle. A minimum of one of the certifications listed below is required: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP) Cisco advanced certifications (such as CCIE), or equivalent are preferable. Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of LAN/WAN internetworking, Wi-Fi (Cisco/Aruba), IEEE standards, VoIP, SIP, QoS, video conferencing/streaming. Experience with Cisco routers, HP/Alcatel/Cisco switches, protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, IPv6, IPsec, etc.). Familiarity with ITIL lifecycle practices, network security, and automation tools. Ability to code basic scripts to automate and improve network operations. Strong communication skills, capable of translating technical details into plain language. Benefits
