The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division (PIE-DO) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facility. PIE-DO implements the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program on Division projects to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner. What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 1 or Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if hired at the higher level. Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 1

($94,500 - $154,600) – The Project Engineer 1 performs as the lead technical representative for engineering activities related to planning, design, execution, and closeout of projects. They will lead and manage development of projects with an integrated project team (IPT) that includes customers, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and others. They will manage engineering design efforts, which may be performed by internal and/or external design teams, manage design reviews, and ensure delivery of the design product. They will interface with the Engineer of Record and the construction subcontractor to support project execution. Specific responsibilities include: Support determination of project engineering staffing needs and management of costs from project planning through project turnover. Manage technical requirements for construction, including coordinating designer-constructor interfaces, design changes, submittal reviews, inspection documentation, RFIs, FCRs, commissioning, and turnover processes. Work with an Integrated Project Team (IPT). Interface with Engineer of Record and construction subcontractor to complete execution of designs and processing of change authorizations. Attend construction coordination meetings and represent Engineering. Coordinate with LANL AHJ representatives and Subject Matter Experts for issue resolution. Enforce LANL Conduct of Engineering program requirements. External design execution may require contract management. Nuclear Facilities Project Engineer 2

($104,100 - $172,200) – In addition to the level 1 responsibilities, level 2 requires demonstrated understanding of Project Engineering principles and their application on the job. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: Basic familiarity with design and construction contracts. Awareness of basic project design execution processes and procedures, detailed engineering, and familiarity with construction work processes. Aptitude for collaborative problem solving with SMEs, construction personnel, and peers. Experience with participating on or leading design teams and resolving technical issues. Experience with participating on or leading an execution support team resolving technical and construction issues. Detail oriented with ability to work with multiple organizations under tight deadlines. Awareness of national and industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IBC, ASME). Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey engineering solutions. Desktop automation skills (MS Office Suite). Additional Job Requirements for Project Engineer 2: Knowledge of basic construction engineering principles. Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles and their practical application. Awareness of quality requirements such as ASME NQA-1, ISO 9000 or similar. Experience with execution support teams resolving technical and construction issues. Detail oriented with ability to work with multiple organizations under tight deadlines. Familiarity with LANL Conduct of Engineering Program or similar program. Education/Experience Level 1: Bachelor’s in Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 2 years of relevant experience; advanced engineering or technical degree is a plus. Level 2: Bachelor’s in Engineering (ABET-accredited) and minimum 3 years of relevant experience; Professional Engineer (PE) registration is desirable. Desired Qualifications: Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (state license). Advanced degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with DOE standards and orders (e.g., DOE O 413.3b, DOE-STD-1189). Experience with AutoCAD.
