Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health. Aurora Water is looking for a SCADA / OT Systems Technician I for the Technical Operations section of the Support Services division to support and grow our SCADA Operational Technology [OT] team and infrastructure. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a broad range of difficult and complex duties associated with the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and installation of process automation control systems, SCADA and process automation control applications, controls and machinery used in the production, treatment, storage, and transmission of raw water, treated water, and reclaimed water. Actively monitors functionality and performance of the SCADA system and its services Maintains integrity of the SCADA system, in conjunction with and through close coordination with the lead technicians Configures, deploys, and verifies functionality of SCADA / OT hardware Configures maintains, and troubleshoots SCADA / OT communication problems for lease-line circuits, spread spectrum, narrow-band, and microwave radios and determine materials and supplies necessary for maintenance and repair Configures, maintains, installs, troubleshoots camera systems, including stationary and PTZ cameras, and NVRs Configures, maintains, troubleshoots, installs, updates, and upgrades OT hardware platforms such as, firewalls, switches, servers, and nodes Manages and maintains end point protection system Prepares routine and ad-hoc reports and queries of SCADA databases. Develops, modifies, troubleshoots SCADA HMI screens using an industrial automation software package Ensures a complete and accurate inventory of physical OT system devices, OT software, and licensing Configuration Management: Maintains equipment baselines and configurations Executes daily, scheduled corrective / preventative maintenance and repair tasks Uses a computerized maintenance management system [CMMS] to document work activity Maintains OT Network / SCADA System documentation and software revisions and licenses Assists vendors and project managers for facility upgrade projects and new facility projects Attends weekly team meetings and presents safety topic on a rotation basis Stays current on technical issues relative to the position Ensures proper safety precautions are observed Performs other related duties as assigned Requirements
Education : Associates degree in Computer Science or directly related field. Experience : 3-5 years of experience in network administration. SCADA OT Systems Engineer Senior
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience : At least 8 years progressively responsible experience in voice and data networks including network design, security, implementation, and support. Additional Duties And Responsibilities
Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) and lead authority for SCADA/OT network and systems infrastructure across Aurora Water operations. Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. Lead the development and enforcement of internal standards, procedures, and documentation related to SCADA/OT systems. Present technical findings, proposals, and justifications to department leadership, engineering project managers, and cybersecurity governance boards as needed. Champion a culture of proactive risk management, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement across SCADA engineering operations. Knowledge
Strong knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, networking, security / cyber risk and resilience, and disaster recovery Working knowledge of Industrial Control Systems and cyber risk and resilience Basic knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment and distribution processes and equipment; safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. Basic knowledge of SCADA principles and related systems. Knowledge of water related safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an understanding of Water industry business operations Skills
Strong interpersonal, supervisory, network and computer skills. Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, consultants, and citizens; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Read and understand documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical documents, plans, schematics, and specifications. Establish and fulfill goals and objectives; organize and prioritize work; meet deadlines; communicate complex or technical SCADA concepts and terms to non-SCADA oriented employees, managers, and residents. Licenses Required
Colorado Driver’s license and a safe driving history.
