Overview
The Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington is seeking an attorney with at least one (1) year of post-J.D. experience. This announcement is for one (1) available vacancy. The duty location will be Seattle, WA or Tacoma, WA, to be determined at selection. Full-time Responsibilities
The Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal Division pursue prosecutions for violations of federal law within the District. AUSAs advise federal law enforcement agents on criminal investigations, present criminal cases to the grand jury, try criminal cases before the United States District Court, and, at times, represent the United States in appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. This position will be assigned primarily to the investigation and prosecution of criminal immigration offenses. Responsibilities will increase and become more complex with training and experience. The attorney hired for this position may be located in either the Seattle or Tacoma office. Applicants should state their office location preference in the cover letter. Regular travel between Tacoma and Seattle is required as needed for casework and training. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A J.D. degree, active bar membership (any U.S. jurisdiction), and at least one (1) year of post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications:
Ideally at least three (3) years of litigation experience, with some experience in criminal and/or immigration law, and a commitment to public service. Applicants should demonstrate strong analytical, writing, oral communication, research, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a demanding, ethical environment. The ability to conduct independent legal research and writing, manage day-to-day correspondence and pleadings, and proficiency with computer tools such as Internet research, electronic filing, email, data management, and video-conferencing is expected. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Education

You must be a United States Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing; continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. You must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. You must be registered for Selective Service if applicable. Security clearance
