Key Responsibilities
Apply technical standards and methodologies creatively to develop new and innovative propulsion design concepts using sound engineering principles, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups. Design and develop new “clean sheet” transmission power flow architectures, cross-sections and components using CAD software while collaborating with CAD designers. Perform engineering calculations: component loading, stress, and life calculations for general sizing efforts Review structural and system level analyses and make design judgements based on results. Determine appropriate DVP&R level to validate products and execute completion by initiating test requests, supporting data review and interpretation, and a thorough review of test reports. Support DFMEA, PFMEA activity and assessment to Best Practices to guide product design; including either generation of new or modification of existing. Execute R&D activities related to advanced powertrain concepts in support of Technology Information Lifecycle (TIL). Provide technical support to vertical engineering groups to support PLT sanctioned OS activities across all end markets. Monitor and maintain knowledge on the latest industry trends in commercial propulsion solutions related to conventional engines, alternatives fuels, and electrification. Foster effective collaboration within the team, demonstrating technical expertise and supporting the success of others. Apply strong presentation and communication skills to successfully meet demanding customer needs with mutually beneficial solutions. Document and present technical and program materials internally and to customers Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Master’s degree in related Engineering field, preferred Excellent oral and written (e.g. presentations) communication skills Demonstrated history of developing solutions to complex technical challenges Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple different programs simultaneously 15+ years of engineering experience in powertrain engineering 5+ years of new transmission architecture and cross-section development Strong mechanical, hydraulic and electrical sub-system and component design and validation experience Strong problem solving techniques including but not limited to; Red X, Kepner Tregoe, 8D, Six Sigma, Fault Tree Analysis. Proficient in 2D/3D CAD tools, Siemens NX preferred Ability to read, interpret and create detail drawings and blueprints Allison Transmission is an equal opportunity employer.
