We are migrating from a legacy, custom-built video processing pipeline to a modern, cloud-based infrastructure using Dolby Hybrik or AWS Elemental. This effort involves re-platforming the existing video encoding and transcoding environment into a scalable, cloud-native solution. We will be stabilizing the existing video platform while our client builds a new solution and we are looking for engineers with deep expertise in custom video pipelines and cloud-based media workflows. You'll work closely with our client's engineers to collaborate across infrastructure, quality, and platform teams to maintain and evolve our encoding and delivery workflows. This is a hands-on, high-impact opportunity for engineers who thrive in complex, distributed environments and are comfortable navigating bespoke systems with limited documentation. This project can be worked fully remote, working in the Eastern Time zone. Responsibilities

Provide operational support and troubleshooting for our custom video encoding/transcoding pipeline (FFmpeg, GStreamer, or similar). Monitor and maintain live and VOD video delivery workflows, ensuring high availability and performance. Write scripts (Python, Shell) to automate encoding jobs, monitoring, and system tasks. Collaborate with the existing engineer to document workflows, build playbooks, and improve observability. Assist in incident response and root cause analysis for video delivery issues. Support the migration to a cloud-based platform (Dolby Hybrik or AWS Elemental). Contribute to the development of microservices for video ingestion, packaging, and validation. Ensure compatibility with ad workflows and playback standards (HLS, DASH, CMAF). Partner with QA to automate validation and content readiness checks. Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on video systems or backend infrastructure. Strong experience with FFmpeg, GStreamer, or similar encoding/transcoding tools. Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting. Solid understanding of AWS services (S3, EC2, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.). Familiarity with streaming protocols and manifest formats (HLS, DASH, CMAF). Experience with incident response, monitoring, and observability tools. Ability to work in a bespoke system with limited documentation and high ambiguity. Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams. Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable working in fast-paced environments. Passion for video technology and a desire to stay current with evolving standards. Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, remote environment aligned to the Eastern Time Zone.
