Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a Software Engineer to join the team!
The Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) is the security and law enforcement arm of the U.S. Department of State (the Department). DS is a world leader in international investigations, threat analysis, cyber security, counterterrorism, security technology, and protection of people, property, and information. Its primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. The Directorate of Cyber and Technology Security (CTS) is responsible for bringing together cyber, technology, and investigative expertise to address emerging cyber-based threats affecting the Department's personnel, critical infrastructure, and information assets. This position works in direct support of the Emerging Technologies Division within CTS's Office of Technology Innovation and Engineering.
Specific Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive research and data gathering to evaluate innovative electronic devices and computers.
Perform theoretical and laboratory assessments of diverse technologies, devices, and hardware.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, product vendors, and software engineers, to devise secure strategies for introducing solutions into practical environments.
Develop and document meticulous test plans to assess potential security risks posed by mobile devices and emerging technologies.
Design and execute laboratory experiments and simulations to validate the efficacy of implemented information security controls.
Devise and implement strategies to ensure strict adherence to cybersecurity protocols across all projects.
Stay abreast of advancements in relevant fields such as computers, cellphones, medical devices, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, fostering continuous process improvement.
Conduct independent research on emerging technologies with minimal oversight.
Provide technical expertise and support to address software engineering and cybersecurity issues as they arise.
Document processes, findings, and outcomes comprehensively for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Must have a current Interim Top-Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government final TOP SECRET Personnel Security Clearance and be able to qualify for SCI access.
Must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a similar field and at least three (3) years of experience working in software engineering.
Proficiency in Python, C++, or equivalent programming languages.
Strong familiarity with iOS and Android mobile devices.
Proficiency with one or more of the following: Linux OS, Windows OS, Apple OS, Apple iOS, and Android OS.
Understanding of cybersecurity and information security principles.
Proficiency in technical report creation and interpretation.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in research methodologies and data gathering techniques.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Desired Skills
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
Experience implementing information security measures in software projects.
Familiarity with relevant data analysis and simulation tools.
Understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts.
Familiarity with modern software hacking techniques such as fuzzing and side channeling.
Proficiency in wireless information technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular).
Eagerness to explore novel methods of attack and a proactive mindset towards staying ahead of emerging threats.
Willingness to employ a diverse range of tools and techniques, including the development of custom tools, if necessary, to uncover vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors.
Expertise with Linux OS, Windows OS, Apple OS, Apple iOS, and/or Android OS

Travel

Domestic travel may be required for training and meetings.
