Astound Broadband is seeking a Fiber Splicing Technician to ensure quality and timely delivery of fiber services. Responsibilities include prep and fusion of single-mode or multi-mode fiber for inside and outside plant construction, fiber panel and splice case audits, and placement of mid-sheath splices. Duties And Responsibilities

Perform prep and fusion of single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic cables for both inside and outside plant construction. Perform fiber panel audits and splice case audits. Properly place mid-sheath splices. Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifier and scope. Perform installation and testing of fiber cross connects. Coordinate with Construction Project Managers and Fiber Design to perform splicing as directed. Provide Fiber Design team with detailed reports of field splicing activity. Adhere to quality control guidelines and applicable regulations (OSHA, FCC, NESC, NEC) and follow procedures in manuals and Employee Handbook. Clean, maintain, stock and secure equipment. Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic with minimal supervision. Participate in engineering, permit and construction processes. Construct splice cases (pressurized and non-pressurized) using various cables, including grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing. Make recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables and input into construction methodologies. Assist in scheduling splicing jobs with Construction Managers and/or Fiber Design. Assist in training and support for Fiber Splicer I-II. Coordinate with NOC for maintenance splicing and required Wimps. Work flexible hours and participate in on-call rotation, nights and weekends as needed. Other duties as assigned. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record. Education

High school diploma or equivalent Requirements/Qualifications

5+ years of splicing experience with the ability to properly place a mid-sheath splice Knowledge of fusion splicing and fiber testing equipment Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Proficiency with construction equipment, hand tools, fusion splicer, OTDR, fiber identifiers and scope Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to adhere to Local and Federal regulations and company policies Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and organize effectively Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, Google Suite, Smartsheets) Ability to work with Ribbon fiber and single mode Understanding of safe construction practices Ability to work flexible hours, nights and weekends, and on-call rotation Ability to communicate and interact effectively with teammates Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment without supervision Ability to drive company vehicles safely Valid driver’s license and auto insurance with satisfactory driving record Ability to live within 30 miles (or up to 1-hour commute) from the assigned territory Physical Requirements

The base salary range in California is 27.50 - 45.00/hour, with opportunities for bonus, benefits and commissions where applicable. Salary varies by skills and experience and may differ by location.
