Project Accountant III
– Warwick, RI Location: Warwick, RI Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite, Contract (3–6 months)
Position Overview MGT is seeking a highly skilled Project Accountant III with proven expertise in construction project accounting to support our client, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, in Warwick, RI. This full-time, onsite contract position is expected to last 3–6 months starting as soon as possible.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical accounting background, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and the ability to perform complex reconciliations with accuracy and efficiency. While the primary focus will be construction-related accounting, experience with grant accounting and administration is highly desirable.
This role will require onsite work initially, with the potential to transition to a hybrid schedule if business needs allow. The standard work schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of construction project accounting, including posting construction payments to CIP accounts and handling retainage accounting.
Prepare, review, and reconcile complex project-related financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and cost allocations to ensure accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.
Maintain and update detailed project accounting schedules, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Conduct advanced data analysis and develop customized financial reports using Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
Collaborate with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to provide timely project cost and status updates.
Support grant administration processes when applicable, including compliance tracking, documentation, and financial reporting for federal and state funding sources (experience preferred, but not required).
Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities related to project accounting.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Strong technical accounting background with a deep understanding of GAAP.
Proven experience managing construction project accounting and complex reconciliations.
Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills (advanced formulas, pivot tables, data modeling, and reporting).
Experience with CIP accounting and retainage accounting processes.
Familiarity with grant administration, including compliance and reporting for government-funded projects, is highly desirable but not required.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
Onsite in Warwick, RI.
Full-time, Monday–Friday schedule.
Collaborative work environment with close coordination between finance, project management, and operations teams.
