Overview

Denison University seeks an experienced teacher and active scholar for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of English specializing in any period of early British literature before 1700, to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate level, contribute to the curricular breadth of the English Department and the general education mission of the college, and maintain an ongoing research agenda. Location: Granville, OH. Position type: Tenure Track Faculty. Denison’s standard teaching load is 3/2. The department offers a major and a minor in literature and creative writing and promotes an active teacher-scholars community. Candidates should demonstrate readiness to teach Denison’s first-year writing course, literary surveys of early British literature, Shakespeare, and additional introductory and upper-level courses, with opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary programs. Responsibilities

Teach sections of Denison’s first-year writing course, surveys of early British literature, and Shakespeare, along with additional introductory and upper-level literature courses designed by the candidate. Contribute to interdisciplinary programs and participate in department and college service, advising, and mentoring of undergraduate students. Maintain an active research agenda with a track record or clear potential for publication and participation in scholarly activities. Engage in campus life and contribute to the intellectual community of a residential liberal arts college. Qualifications

Ph.D. in hand by August 2026 is required; ABD will be considered as Instructor until Ph.D. is obtained; Associate Professor will be hired at rank on an accelerated tenure review timeline. Demonstrated teaching expertise and scholarly activity in British literature before 1700. Application Instructions
