WSP is seeking a
Senior Water Resources Scientist
to help grow our water quality consulting team in Altamonte Springs, FL. A Bachelor’s degree in natural or physical sciences is required (Master’s or Doctorate is preferred), with a minimum of 12+ years of experience preparing technical reports, conducting or managing environmental sampling programs, interpreting data, and developing water quality management solutions. Experience with ArcGIS is desirable. The ideal candidate will be excited about the opportunity to develop high-quality insightful deliverables which include appropriate data analyses and solutions for our clients’ water quality management needs. In addition, the candidate will strive to maintain and expand our environmental consulting business by sharing and utilizing their knowledge and technical skills in surface and groundwater quality management, TMDLs, NNCs, water quality resources, environmental permitting, and municipal NPDES compliance. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to mentor staff, evaluate/implement both tried-and-true and cutting-edge technologies, promote excellence, lead development of technical deliverables and take part in our varied field activities. The ideal candidate will also possess a working knowledge of a range of water quality management and restoration methodologies including traditional stormwater retrofits and best management practices, sediment management and restoration dredging, in-lake sediment nutrient inactivation, wetland treatment systems, biosorption activated media, and other similar strategies for managing water quality in a variety of settings. Your Impact
Prepare technical deliverables and assure QA/QC with support from the team
Manage surface water collection monitoring programs
Manage projects
Expertise with Florida water quality regulations
Oversight, QA/QC, and mentoring of junior staff
Coordinate and lead multi-disciplinary teams
Lead project teams, ensuring that project deliverables are met, and ensuring schedule and budget expectations are adhered to
Plan, schedule, and coordinate staffing levels needed for projects
Assist with client and project development – track opportunities, identify client needs, assist with proposals and marketing materials where needed
Participate with leadership in developing strategic plan for Florida
Develop and maintain relationships with key client project managers
Support proposal preparation work and technical work scope development
Market and develop new work to support the continued growth of the practice area
Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work
Travel to project(s) as needed for the execution of project goals
Who You Are
Required Qualifications B.S. in Environmental Science/Engineering, Biology, Hydrology, or related field required
Proven track record of leading and preparing written technical documents such as studies involving use of the scientific method; surface water quality management plans with pollutant loading assessments and project alternatives; conceptual project plans with cost estimates and discussion; feasibility studies involving practical analysis of project alternatives; and technical memoranda which may involve a wide range of subject matter related to water quality.
12+ years relevant experience
Proven track record marketing and developing new work
Expertise and knowledge of the local (Florida) water resource market
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with, mentor and direct engineers, scientists and technicians
Exhibit ability to successfully track and meet budgets and schedules
Demonstrated experience selling, managing, performing and consulting on projects and programs including a wide range of project sizes
