Overview
The Department of Chemistry at Morehouse College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in inorganic or bioinorganic chemistry beginning August 2026 . Applications are encouraged in all fields, with emphasis on scientists with training in chemical biology, computational chemistry/sciences, or instrumental analysis. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a related field, and postdoctoral experience.
Responsibilities Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting Black men and men of color from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to accomplish curricular goals. Responsibilities include teaching lectures and laboratories (a 3-3 load) in general chemistry and inorganic chemistry; teaching both introductory and advanced undergraduate courses.
The successful candidate will also be expected to support the College’s general education curriculum, advise and mentor undergraduate students, develop a strong externally funded research program in their field of expertise involving undergraduate students while maintaining a scholarly research and publication agenda, and provide service to the department and the College. We also encourage faculty to be active in soliciting external funding through grants and other sources.
Salary Salary: commensurate with experience
Minimum qualifications Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a related area; commitment to excellence in teaching; evidence for the development of a productive research/scholarship program; and service to the profession and community.

Qualifications (Desired)
Education: Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching (i.e., teaching assistantships, prior course instruction, or related experience).
Evidence of scholarly productivity including peer-reviewed publications or equivalent research output.
Demonstrated potential to develop and maintain an externally funded research program that actively engages undergraduate students.
Commitment to mentoring and supporting students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, particularly Black men and men of color.
Strong oral and written communication skills for teaching, advising, and scholarly dissemination.
