Brunswick School Safety & Security Officers ensure the safety and security of all school members and school property, while enforcing related rules and regulations. Safety & Security Officers should be approachable, serve as positive role models who build productive relationships with staff, faculty, parents, and students. Physical Requirements And Work Environment
Ability to pass a physical examination and physical agility as determined by the School. Physically able to respond to the essential functions of this job, including “Use of physical force in defense of person” as permitted under Section 53a-19. Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body. Able to work in various positions; bending, sitting, kneeling and standing for extended periods of time. Ability to walk, run, and swim. Work in both a traditional climate-controlled office setting as well as outside in weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold for periods of time. Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and varied contacts. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Uphold the mission and values of Brunswick School and demonstrate a commitment to preparing boys for lives marked by excellence in their endeavors, ethics in their actions, and empathy toward others. Greet students, staff and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner. Assist with the control of entrances and exits of visitors, students and staff. Patrol and monitor assigned campus including hallways, common areas, grounds and parking lots. Assist with the control of traffic, particularly during drop off and pick up times. Assist visitors with directions and securing proper identification. Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them off campus. Assist during crisis situations and/or related emergencies. Assist Police and other emergency responders as necessary. Assist during routine drills including fire and lockdowns. Inspect and monitor the security of doors, windows and gates during School hours. Monitor outdoor activity with attention to Pre-School, Lower School and recess activity. Inspect for and report any hazards or other unsafe conditions to the Director of Safety and Security. Maintain strict confidentiality of school and student matters. May assist Administrators/Director of Safety & Security with investigation of illegal activity within the School. May provide security at sporting events and extracurricular activities outside of School hours including weekends, evenings and occasional nights. Other duties as assigned – duties will vary depending upon campus assignment. Required Experience And Certifications
Must have served/serve as a Police Officer in the State of Connecticut or State of New York. Must have been honorably discharged and have an acceptable letter of conduct from previous employment as a Police Officer. Must be able to pass an employment background check for school employees; CGS 10-221d and CGS 10-222c. Must maintain certification in CPR, AED and First Aid. Must have or willing to obtain a Connecticut State Permit to Carry Pistol or Revolver with Class 1 Endorsement. Have and maintain Connecticut Blue Card certification. Must be certified under POSTC standard; Title 18 USC 926C. Must be able to pass firearm proficiency examination as determined by the School. Required to take annual refresher training and testing in firearms safety. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Appreciation for education, particularly in an independent School environment. Strong communication skills and ability to problem solve. Ability to effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. Strong situational awareness and an ability to analyze conditions and apply policies and procedures to produce desired outcomes. Demonstrates individual initiative, self-awareness, commitment to personal and professional growth, ability to receive and apply feedback. Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge and ability to use multi-line telephone system, desktop/and or laptop computers and computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and other software systems in performing work assignments. Type: Full-Time, Staff FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt - Salaried Reports to: Director of Safety and Security Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 11am – 7pm with some flexibility.
