Austin Community College is seeking a Faculty, Music (Instrumental Music) in the ACC Music Department. The department directs and supervises Wind Ensemble and other instrumental ensembles, teaches applied lessons in Wind, Brass, or Percussion, recruits and builds the instrumental program, and teaches undergraduate courses in music. Additional course teaching assignments are dependent on the qualifications of the candidate and departmental needs. The successful candidate will contribute to developing a comprehensive vision for the department, curriculum standards, and accreditation, and be an active member of professional music organizations. Job Description

The ACC Music Department is housed within the Division of Arts and Digital Media. This position serves as Director of the ACC Wind Ensemble and teaches applied lessons in Woodwinds, Brass, or Percussion. ACC offers transferable degrees for performance, music education, and commercial music and prepares students for transfer to four-year institutions. Principal Responsibilities and Duties

Prepare and teach courses in the field of Music in alignment with department learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate for community college students and disciplinary standards. Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, outcomes assessment, and other departmental activities. Evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback reflecting program outcomes and department expectations. Mentor students in the Music program. Provide instruction and mentoring without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories. Remain current in the field through professional development. Support division and department goals through active engagement in planning and decision-making. Serve on college-wide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, or vice chancellor or executive vice chancellor. Additional Duties

Direct the ACC Wind Ensemble. Direct chamber ensembles within the instrumental specialty of the successful candidate. Teach applied lessons (Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion). Develop community partnerships with music organizations and educational entities. Recruit area high school wind, brass, and percussion students. Additional course teaching assignments as determined by qualifications and departmental needs. Technology

Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and other classroom technologies. Proficiency with a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop course content and perform administrative duties. Principal Professional Standards

Appropriate use of the college's learning management system. Meet deadlines for attendance certification and final grades. Participate in graduation, general assemblies, and other official college functions. Maintain regular office hours to support student retention and success. Attend and participate in college-wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings. Demonstrate civility and collegiality in all interactions. Comply with college policies and professional standards for teaching in a community college. Required Education

In accordance with SACSCOC requirements: Master’s degree in Music or Music Education; or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Music. SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline. Preferred Work Experience

Three years of experience in a higher education institution directing a Wind Ensemble and/or teaching applied lessons in Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion. Qualities of a Successful Candidate

Dynamic instructional delivery for students with varying proficiency and backgrounds. Up-to-date knowledge of the discipline and subject matter. Experience using technology to enhance learning. Experience with active and applied teaching and learning methodologies. Commitment to teaching in a community college setting, with an understanding of multicultural classrooms and cultural sensitivity. Culture of care for all; Servant-Leadership; strong communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain evening/weekend schedules and multiple campus locations if needed. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information. Understanding of teaching in a community college serving underprepared and underserved students. Application Requirements
