Overview The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist II provides experienced level knowledge and support to the Operations group within BG Products to ensure a safe and environmentally compliant work environment while maintaining compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. This position will work closely with the EHS Manager, other EHS specialists and all departments within BG Products to plan, direct, and implement EHS programs.
Duties & Responsibilities

Safety Compliance That Includes
Plans, develops, promotes, advises, implements and assesses processes to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Anticipates, identifies, evaluates and controls hazards.
Assists in evaluating the impact of emerging safety issues and regulations on company operations.
Assists in establishing a safety minded culture of continuous safety awareness, compliance and visibility throughout the company.
Assists in accident/incident/illness, and near miss investigations and communicates results and resolution as needed.
Evaluates, analyzes, and implements proper engineering and administrative control strategies, and proper personal protective equipment.
Assists in industrial hygiene monitoring/sampling as needed to maintain compliance with hearing conservation program, air monitoring requirements, and other IH initiatives.
Assists with BG Products monthly drug testing program.
Participates in new employee orientation training.
Assists in the development of safety meetings that will encourage and promote employee engagement.
Assists in the development, coordination and conduct of safety related training such as powered industrial equipment (fork lift), confined space entry, hazard communication, fire safety, fall protection and other training as required.
Assists in the auditing and inspection of BG Products safety programs.
Assists in the execution of periodic emergency drills such as fire, chemical release, severe weather, medical, and other emergencies and maintains plans accordingly.
Assists with periodic reviews of all safety policies and procedures as well as maintaining injury and illness statistics and reports (Dart, OIR, OSHA, etc.).
ISO 45001 responsibilities include participation in system auditing, safety review, and establishing objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.
Assists in the completion of annual above ground storage tanks (ASTs) permit renewal and notification of local fire departments, LEPCs, and KDHE.
Environmental Compliance That Includes
Assists in the management of programs such as the hazardous waste program, Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), SPCC, SWPPP, annual Tier II and Form R reports as well as scrap fluid program.
Performs weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual environmental inspections.
Participates in waste minimization efforts and lean EHS initiatives.
ISO 14001 responsibilities include participation in system auditing, environmental reviews, and establishing objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.
Assists in the development and implementation of EHS policies and procedures while maintaining existing programs.
Works closely with all departments to maintain proper SDS sheets for all products manufactured, packaged and shipped from BG facilities.
Assists shipping/receiving departments with DOT / IATA / IMDG regulations and training.
Assists in the completion of the annual Emergency and Hazardous Chemical Inventory (Tier II) report for LEPC’s and KDHE.
Assists in the completion of the annual Toxic Release Inventory (TRI – Form A/R) report to the KDHE and EPA.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
6 to 10 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety.
Experience working in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Valid driver’s license required.
