Overview
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for the position of adjunct chemistry instructor. Qualified candidates will teach first-year or second-year chemistry courses, including: Introductory Chemistry General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (1- or 2-semester courses) General Chemistry 1 and 2 (lecture and lab) Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 (lecture and lab) Details include position responsibilities, qualifications, and terms of employment as described below.
Essential Duties
Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to active student involvement and participation. Provide each student with the approved standardized syllabus containing clear course expectations and timelines. Provide course materials and assignments to support course learning outcomes as defined by the Chemistry Department and the State of Ohio. Create and administer appropriate assessments (as approved by the Chemistry Department Chair or Lead Instructor) to ensure that students achieve the course learning outcomes as defined in the syllabus. Facilitate meaningful student learning activities that align with the course learning outcomes and proactively support all facets of the learning environment. Respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner. Suitably challenge, engage, serve, and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual respect. Maintain in a timely manner all required paper and electronic records (using Blackboard) of student performance, progress, and attendance. Complete, as directed, all start and end-of-term responsibilities, including submission of no-show rosters, final grades, and all other designated materials to the Academic Office. Consult with the Chemistry Department Chair or other appropriate College personnel on questions or issues involving course curricula, instructional strategies, and College policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in chemistry, or A Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in any field, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in a chemistry-related discipline Availability to teach in-person lectures and labs
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of one year of teaching experience at a regionally accredited post-secondary institution, or a minimum of two years as a teaching assistant Teaching experience in a community college
Desired Competencies
Commitment to continual improvement of instruction and student learning Ability to use or learn a variety of instructional techniques and classroom technologies Experience with or commitment to learn and use Blackboard, the College's Learning Management System Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse student populations, with varying socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds Good organizational and planning skills
