Burns & McDonnell . Burns & McDonnell is seeking to hire a Senior Architectural Historian/Cultural Resources Specialist within our Environmental Services Global practice. The successful candidate will lead and support architectural and historic resource studies, surveys, and archival research. Responsibilities include:
Serving as Principal Investigator for architectural resource documentation and evaluation projects, including oversight of junior staff. Coordinating with Project Managers and agency staff. Writing architectural descriptions and evaluating resources for NRHP eligibility. Assessing effects under Section 106 of the NHPA and applicable state laws. Preparing technical reports across various geographic locations and regulatory contexts. Performing additional duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university. Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Cultural Resource Management, Public History, or a related field is strongly preferred; can be substituted with one year of experience. Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards as an Historian and Architectural Historian. Minimum of 8 years of related experience, including conducting historic architecture surveys for regulatory compliance. Experience with archival research, writing architectural descriptions, and understanding preservation laws. Ability to mentor junior staff and engage in fieldwork (up to 40% travel). Willingness to travel across the central and eastern U.S. Preferred: TxDOT pre-certification and proficiency with Google Earth, ArcGIS, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Photoshop.
