A new department in microbial sciences research at Cleveland Clinic is seeking faculty candidates at Assistant or Associate Professor rank to build upon recent expansion of microbiology resources and facilities. We invite applications from investigators whose research broadly focuses on aspects of the interaction of diet, microbial, and host factors in healthy aging. Specific research areas of interest include but are not limited to: nutritional approaches to delay cellular senescence, identification of diet-microbe-host interactions relevant to human disease, microbial nutrient metabolism, bacteriophage therapy, and the role of microbiota in cancer biology and response to chemotherapy or immunotherapy. We are particularly seeking investigators who use innovative approaches to understand the nature of how microbial nutrient metabolism impacts host physiology, metabolism, and disease susceptibility over the lifespan. Basic or translation investigators who are leaders in the field of microbiome-related research are sought to contribute to this mission. Meritorious candidates will be housed in a brand new, state-of-art research building opening in spring of 2026, and will join a cohesive team of investigators focused on microbiome, nutrition, bacterial-associated disease, antimicrobial resistance, chronic viral infections, and emerging virus research. Successful candidates benefit from regular interactions within the Cleveland Clinic Center for Microbiome & Human Health (https://www.lerner.ccf.org/microbiome/), which provides world-class core support for microbial culturing & genetic engineering, gnotobiotic mouse studies, microbial sequencing and analytics, and microbe-focused metabolomics. Faculty will also hold academic appointments within the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University to help facilitate recruitment of graduate and undergraduate students. Impact of the Cleveland Clinic: Cleveland Clinic has operated for over 100 years on the principle of bringing innovative teams together to advance patient care. Today, we are a world leader in science-based healthcare. Our strategic plan for research harnesses information technology to power significant advances in both personalized and population medicine. A major component of our strategy includes our anchor role in building the Cleveland Innovation District. This unprecedented collaboration includes participation and investment by the State of Ohio, along with five independent Cleveland healthcare and academic institutions and is designed to transform research, education, and economic opportunities in Northeast Ohio, the United States, and across the world. Cleveland Clinic Research: Cleveland Clinic Research, a part of the global Cleveland Clinic enterprise, has a footprint spanning nearly 1 million square feet, with two new state-of-the-art facilities scheduled to open in 2026. In 2024, research funding grew to $520 million, which includes $176 million in federal funding across 632 federal awards. In addition, Cleveland Clinic’s global footprint provides a wealth of resources to support research throughout the enterprise, including our locations in Northeast Ohio, Florida, London, and Abu Dhabi. Qualifications: Applicants must hold a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) with postdoctoral training. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience (Assistant or Associate Professor), and appointments will include both competitive start-up funds and salaries. Onboarding will require completion of background checks before hiring in accordance with Cleveland Clinic policies. Candidates should submit a cover letter, a complete curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests (max. 3 pages, including figures), and contact information for three references by email to: Ms. Christina Stuart stuartc2@ccf.org
