Job Summary The Department of Dermatology is seeking a Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to support our rapidly growing practice. This role combines leadership and clinical responsibilities, providing administrative supervision for a team of Advanced Practice Providers, including Physician Assistants (PAs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), while also maintaining an active clinical practice in general or specialty dermatology. The Lead APP will play a key role in fostering professional development, ensuring high-quality patient care, and supporting the operational and academic missions of the department. Opportunities may also be available to participate in clinical research and contribute to the department’s academic environment, further strengthening the integration of clinical care, education, and discovery. Experience and Education Required

Education : Master's Degree in nursing with documentation of completion of an accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Texas Board of Nursing authorization appropriate to the clinical practice area and patient population, or a master's degree or higher from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.

Experience : 3 years of independent dermatology practice required, with demonstrated increasing responsibility.

Licenses and Certifications : Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority, or NCCPA certification, and Texas Physician Assistant licensure with a supervising physician and delegation to prescribe. Current American Heart Association Life Support certification(s) as required by UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

Job Duties

Oversees and manages coverage schedules for inpatient and outpatient APPs, analyzes APP performance data, and optimizes deployment of staff.

Conducts annual performance evaluations of assigned APP staff in collaboration with division leadership and faculty.

Monitors safety events related to APP clinical practice quality and safety, and addresses issues as designated by leadership.

Reports observed events affecting access, productivity, or clinical practice and collaborates on remediation when needed.

Contributes to development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives for APPs and clinical programs.

Leads regular team meetings to identify barriers to patient care and develops resolutions.

Promotes APP participation in departmental and institutional continuing medical education opportunities.

In the clinical setting, provides diagnostic and therapeutic management within scope of practice, licensure, and privileges.

Performs comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations appropriate to age and diagnosis.

Interprets laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic results to develop patient plans of care.

Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills as appropriate to specialty and training.

Provides management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients and families.

Facilitates quality initiatives and participates in clinical research protocols to improve practice performance.

Collaborates on research projects and applies evidence-based practices to patient care.

Performs other duties as assigned.
