Job Summary Perform all duties related to specified research which may include: performing responsible experimental or research work; determining results desired by the project and suggest procedures to be used to attain desired results; select key research personnel, supervise and instruct them in work; coordinate and review the work of assigned research staff; submit project results to director and prepare and assist in the preparation of scientific papers.

Minimum Education and Experience A minimum of a PhD in a field directly related to research and a minimum of two years of experience/expertise as noted below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Texas Biomedical Device Center supports active projects in vagus nerve stimulation, recovery from neurological injuries, tinnitus therapies, and implantable neural devices. The Research Scientist II will perform research for the university, provide direction, and supervise research units engaged in preclinical research related to vagus nerve stimulation with particular focus on one or more of the following: laryngeal nerve injury, autism, auditory processing, PTSD, and anxiety.

Plans, coordinates, and supervises assigned research projects, and exercises responsibility for project performance and progress. Mentors junior scientists (undergraduate students, graduate students, and other lab personnel) on experiments with biosafety level 1 and 2 bacteria. Mentors junior scientists in research and writing endeavors. Assembles and analyzes research data. Assists in preparation of grant applications and manuscripts. Coordinates laboratory purchasing and reviews budgets to monitor spending and funds availability. Coordinates materials transfer agreements and shipping of research materials to investigators outside the university. Plans, experiments with, and implements new course-based research experiences (CUREs) in the lab, including dissemination of these to the scientific field via conference presentations and manuscripts.
