Position Summary SRL is the national reference laboratory for Sonic Healthcare USA. As part of this esoteric testing lab, our staff gain new experiences with a unique test menu within a culture of quality and innovation, where we focus on lean processes fueled by a belief in empowered continuous improvement. We pride ourselves on a work environment dedicated to mutual respect where trust and team spirit are an integral part of our daily routine.
The Core Lab Development Scientist is responsible for independent research and development of new assays in a reference laboratory setting. This position works closely with the Core Scientific Director and Senior R&D Scientist to independently conduct verification/validation studies of novel assays in the core laboratory, maintain launched assays throughout their production life, and lead special projects as required.
Responsibilities
Independent research and development of new assays in the Core Lab
Investigation of medical necessity, methodology, instrumentation, manufacturer, quality control, and specimen types.
Coordinates with manufacturers and other laboratories for validation/verification materials
Performs validation/verification studies by collecting and analyzing data using statistical methods
Insures proper LIS build, instrument interfacing, and results reporting in collaboration with the interface team
Composes validation plans, summaries, and standard operating procedures
Adheres to defined time line for development of assays
Periodically maintains, troubleshoots, and reviews assay performance and procedures of launched assays
Maintain launched assays through transitions
Transitions current assays on replacement instrument platforms
Transitions current assay reagents across different methodologies
Utilizes job knowledge, judgment and problem solving skills to ensure quality
Follows established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentation
Performs and documents scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance on instruments while in R&D phase
Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action, including supervisor notification if indicated
Understands and follows all safety, infection controls and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines
Participates in departmental quality assurance programs
Participates in the laboratory continuing education program
Effectively utilizes departmental resources
Demonstrates efficiency by performing procedures rapidly and determining priority
Utilizes appropriate supplies with minimal waste
Operates equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
Utilizes unstructured time constructively
Utilizes personal and professional skills to promote laboratory relations
Communicates with laboratory staff and its clients to ensure quality patient care
Maintains and supports a service oriented relationship with affiliate labs
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients
Strives to maintain a positive work environment
Trains and mentors junior R&D staff in technical methods, experimental design, data analysis, and verification/validation composition
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience:
B.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science AND 4 years of pertinent laboratory experience
OR
a M.S. degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science AND 3 years of pertinent laboratory experience
Certifications
Preferred: Certified as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) OR equivalent certification
