What we offer: A competitive wage (69k-85k annually), vacation, benefits, and a 401k matching program The tools and support needed to be successful in your career and professional development A dynamic & rewarding work environment Competitive salary Job Description Under the management of the commercial sales manager, the commercial buyer will be responsible for the following: Purchases of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from industrial accounts Negotiating with suppliers on price, payment, shipment terms, and contracts to optimize cost effectiveness Follow-up and shipment expedites with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery Vetting and interacting with new potential sources of scrap metal consumers, including retail, dealer, light industrial customers, repair shops, demolition projects, and clean-ups Participating in a database of qualified leads through referrals, telephone canvassing, direct mail, email, and networking Maintaining frequent communications with suppliers for updated lead-time and inventory info for proper planning Keeping accurate records of relevant activities Providing internal and external customer service related to ferrous or non-ferrous business Developing growth of business activities and profit with assigned accounts Providing solutions to companies to improve and maximize scrap recovery Meeting or exceeding buying/sourcing quotas Using working knowledge of materials and sources of supply to make purchases at prices consistent with quality, delivery, and quantity requirements Processing requests for price quotations, purchase orders, order changes, adjustments, and cancellations directly with vendors and manufacturers Maximizing opportunities in closing deals to increase market share from competitors Qualifications Must have working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals Bilingual Spanish/English preferred Strong sales skills and ability to develop long-term customer relationships Excellent verbal and written communication skills, telephone etiquette, and computer proficiency Knowledge of market factors affecting scrap metal prices Ability to negotiate prices, service, and terms with customers and carriers Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task Self-motivated with strong motivation and resourcefulness Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software Willing to work varying hours and travel up to 50% of the time Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Attention to detail and organizational skills
