Essential Functions

Under immediate supervision, for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months, receives intensive scheduled classroom instruction and on-the-job training involving the various facets of the Illinois Department of Revenue’s (IDOR) Audit program and operations. Participates as part of a team in audit assignments, or assists supervisor, to whom assigned, in more difficult or complex audits. Receives on-the-job training in performing auditing assignments of increasing difficulty, in either an in-house setting or in a field office. Attends and participates in a formalized classroom training program on regularly scheduled basis to receive highly specialized and technical orientation, indoctrination and instruction in the knowledge and skill required in both manual and computerized revenue tax auditing. Receives classroom and on-the-job training in utilization of a Personal Computer and related software, e.g., Access, Excel, Word, GenTax, etc. Provides routine tax information and guidance to taxpayers concerning the proper method of completing tax returns and application forms. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATION PATH A Requires a bachelor’s degree. Requires successful completion of fifteen semester hours of academically progressive coursework in accounting including at minimum: two introductory accounting courses, two intermediate accounting courses, one course in taxation or auditing. Progressive coursework is defined as sequencing of increasingly difficult and rigorous coursework in an academic discipline that builds upon previously mastered knowledge and skills. QUALIFICATION PATH B Requires a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or a Certified Public Accountant certification. Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete specific proficiency tests and/or training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class. Conditions of Employment

Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Certain provisions of revolving door restrictions apply to this position.
