The Senior Budget Analyst examines budgets of moderate to high level of complexity, recommending approval or denial, and collaborates with senior leadership on department’s financial activity, recommending change as necessary. This individual analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain sound fiscal controls. S/he generally takes a lead role in the preparation of annual and capital budgets. Description

The Senior Budget Analyst examines budgets of moderate to high level of complexity, recommending approval or denial, and collaborates with senior leadership on department’s financial activity, recommending change as necessary. This individual analyzes monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain sound fiscal controls. S/he generally takes a lead role in the preparation of annual and capital budgets.

Responsibilities

Analyzes accounting records to determine financial resources required to implement program and submits recommendations for budget allocations. Works with department leadership in the preparation of annual and capital budgets and related fiscal activity. Analyzes costs in relation to services performed during previous fiscal years to prepare comparative analyses of operating programs. Recommends approval or disapproval of requests for funds. May coordinate internal controls as related to department human resources, review of FTE to ensure adherence to budgeted positions, and related activity. Advises staff on cost analysis and fiscal allocations. Correlates appropriations for specific programs with appropriations for divisional programs and includes items for emergency funds. Directs preparation of regular and special reports to interpret budget directives; establishes policies for implementation. Consults with department leadership to ensure adjustments are made in accordance with program changes to facilitate long-term planning. Directs compilation of data for leadership as necessary. Testifies regarding proposed budgets before examining and fund-granting authorities to clarify reports and gain support for estimated budget needs. Mentors less experienced budget and financial staff in department. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in areas such as accounting, finance, business, public administration, economics or related; Masters preferred 5 years minimum relevant experience, preferably in a health care setting with Bachelors; 3 years minimum with Masters.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661 - $81675 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
