Who You Are The Senior Scientist oversees our HLA/SLA (Human and Swine Leukocyte Antigen) laboratory, including assay development, validation, training, and regulatory readiness. You bring expertise in molecular typing, antibody testing, flow cytometry, cell culture, and supervisory experience in a CLIA/CAP environment, with a strong research background. Clinical Laboratory Oversight: Manage HLA/SLA typing, antibody screening, and compatibility testing Develop and validate assays Maintain QC/QA documentation and regulatory compliance Support and train technologists and junior scientists Research & Development Leadership: Lead R&D projects on SLA typing technologies, including NGS and Nanopore Supervise novel assay development Collaborate on grants, publications, and tech transfer Strategic & Administrative: Contribute to budget, staffing, and planning Manage team performance, coaching, and mentoring Represent the lab in meetings and conferences Perform high-resolution typing, antibody screening, crossmatches, and cell culture assays Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or related; 10+ years of experience; or Master’s with 8+ years; or PhD with 5+ years 5+ years in a high-complexity clinical lab with leadership experience Experience with HLA/SLA typing technologies (NGS, Nanopore, PCR-SSP, flow cytometry) Research productivity, assay development, and grant experience Knowledge of clinical and animal immunogenetics regulations Previous managerial experience Strong data analysis and bioinformatics skills Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) Experience in xenotransplantation or swine immunogenetics Experience with R&D commercialization pathways Job Location Onsite in Morrisville, NC, with up to 25% travel in the first year.
