Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections (CSWR) in Zimmerman Library at the University of New Mexico seeks a Digital Archivist to strengthen our capacity for managing, preserving, and making accessible born digital and digitally reformatted materials within distinctive collections. Incumbents will bring knowledge of digital storage and retrieval systems, a proven ability to work effectively in a community-engaged environment, and interest in learning new skills with colleagues and researchers. The (CSWR) is an archival research hub within the University of New Mexico Libraries, dedicated to preserving, describing and providing access to varied materials in our own archives and in other collections throughout New Mexico. We strive to respectfully preserve, document and share the history of UNM, the built environment of the Southwest, and the cultural heritage of New Mexico, the Southwest United States, Mexico, and Latin America – always in consultation with the communities and peoples represented in our collections. Through our endorsement of the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials we aspire to foster increased cooperation between tribal and non-tribal libraries and archives. Responsibilities

The digital archivist will be responsible for facilitating digital preservation in the CSWR, refining and maintaining documented workflows, and guiding file transformation and preservation. This position involves close collaboration with archivists, distinctive collections curators, library services coordinators, IT professionals, and community members to arrange and describe digital collections, employ distinctive reference services, and improve accessibility. Additional responsibilities include appraising born-digital acquisitions and supporting research involving digital and other archival materials. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of digital storage and retrieval systems, digital records, and digital publications. Demonstrated experience with policies and procedures for managing born-digital materials for ingest, storage, preservation, organization, description, and access. Demonstrated ability to promote digital collections through online exhibits, visualizations, and other digital outreach activities. Demonstrated knowledge of digital archiving and preservation concepts, methodology, and techniques. Demonstrated results in organizing digital resources and establishing priorities. Certification: Digital Archives Specialist Certificate from the Society of American Archivists. Demonstrated knowledge of an Indigenous language spoken in New Mexico or Spanish.
