Job Summary: The position is responsible for assisting in directing the public safety operations of Gordon State College. Responsibilities

Manages department personnel in the provision of services to students, faculty, staff, parents and visitors. Oversees the department’s GCIC operations; maintains Terminal Agency Coordinator certification. Answers telephones and dispatches officers and student workers to assist students and college employees. Takes police reports. Directs the college’s parking operations, oversees the processing of fees, fines and vehicle registrations. Processes criminal history for other college departments. Reviews daily police reports. Develops and presents training instruction to staff and other campus constituencies. Responds to critical incidents. Manages and maintains all public safety equipment and software programs. Directs the investigation of reported crimes. Assists the Chief of Police in the planning for special events. Analyzes department personnel, policies, and trends and makes recommendations for improvement. Maintains officer training records, coordinates opportunities for officer training. Prepares the NIBRS (National Incident Based Reporting System) reporting. Conducts reviews of body worn cameras for all Department personnel Assists the Chief of Police in reviewing and approving department payroll Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age. Five years (5) of continuous full-time service as a P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer. Three years (3) of supervisory experience at the level of sergeant or above. Must possess a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record. Possession of or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC certification. Must be able to successfully pass the following background checks: Position of Trust + Credit Check; Motor Vehicle Record; Physical Examination; Drug Testing; Psychological Evaluation Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles and practices. Knowledge of community policing principles. Knowledge of emergency preparedness, response and recovery principles. Knowledge of public safety principles related to college campuses. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
