Overview

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University invites applicants for a full-time (nine-month) tenure-track assistant professor of Digital Media Innovation to begin Fall 2026. The ideal candidate embraces media innovation, AI and understands the changing media landscape. In addition to excellence in teaching, we’re interested in a collegial, collaborative candidate with an active research program that includes future-focused scholarship and/or creative activity. This position includes teaching in our growing Bachelor of Science Digital Media Innovation (a STEM designated degree) and our Master of Arts in Digital Media Communication. Other opportunities include collaborating with colleagues in our Media Innovation Lab and Digital Media in Everyday Life Lab. The individual will teach primarily in San Marcos but may teach at the Round Rock Campus from time to time. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Responsibilities

Teach courses in Digital Media Innovation across undergraduate and graduate programs.

Develop and maintain an active research program with future-focused scholarship and/or creative activity.

Collaborate with colleagues in the Media Innovation Lab and the Digital Media in Everyday Life Lab.

Contribute to program growth in the Bachelor of Science in Digital Media Innovation and the Master of Arts in Digital Media Communication.

Engage in service and collegial, collaborative work within the school and university.

Teach primarily in San Marcos, with potential teaching at the Round Rock Campus.

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Terminal Degree in a relevant field at the time of appointment.

Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and an active research agenda in digital media innovation, AI, or related areas.

Ability to work collegially in a collaborative academic environment.

Eligibility for assignment to tenure-track faculty.
