Visit www.worldbank.org. The Interactive Media Services Unit (GCSIM) specializes in delivering media solutions, including cartography. The Cartography Unit maintains cartographic standards and supports data visualization initiatives, including maps, interactive dashboards, GIS analysis, map clearances, and geospatial consulting services. This role collaborates with teams across multimedia functions and with operations, legal, publications, and communications teams. Duties and Accountabilities
Design and development of cartographic and geospatial information: Creates and designs professional maps for reports, publications and web applications using Adobe Illustrator with MAPublisher, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and QGIS. Consults in the project planning process with clients and provides ideas/best practice solutions. Develops and implements procedures to solve problems caused by data limitations, project deadlines, and client needs. GIS, data analysis and visualization: Leverages GIS experience to analyze and visualize data. Collects and compiles spatial data when necessary (data cleaning). Designs and creates complex interactive map designs in Flourish, Datawrapper, Mapbox, Tableau, ESRI StoryMaps and Experience Builder using GIS data to provide clear data visualization. Provides advice on integration and visualization of new and existing data. Client and business responsibilities: Ensures flow of information between client and production staff, monitors work completion, engages with clients to tailor project needs and timelines, tracks expenses, and supports map clearance processes. Selection Criteria
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cartography, Geography, or Geospatial Information Science with at least two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work under tight deadlines and coordinate/deliver multiple projects. Ability to translate complex data for non-technical audiences. Ability to work in multi-cultural environments and build effective working relationships. Problem-solving skills to resolve production and processing challenges. Strong organizational skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including email proficiency and following directions. Desire and ability to learn new skills as technology evolves. Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop). Experience creating data dashboards with Flourish, Datawrapper and ESRI Experience Builder. Web development knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is a plus. WBG Culture and Core Competencies
