Adjunct – Carpentry
position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom. The role emphasizes teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The adjunct is responsible for instruction and monitoring teaching effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups with complex material are essential. Essential Job Functions
Teaches assigned courses, overseeing curriculum and ensuring program rigor and instruction quality. Designs inclusive curricula that foster talent and consider socio-cultural issues of underrepresented groups. Uses appropriate technology and maintains accurate records. Maintains attendance records, submits grades timely, communicates with students, and employs assessment techniques. Participates in department meetings and professional development. Student Engagement & Advisement
Creates a positive classroom atmosphere, encourages active learning, and maintains office hours. Uses technology for communication and fosters a learning community. Advises students on programs, careers, and transfer options, referring them to support services as needed. Culture of Respect
Maintains a safe, inclusive environment. Punctuality and regular attendance are required. Other Duties
Attends meetings and trainings as required. Minimum Education and Experience
Completion of a Registered Apprenticeship in carpentry or five years of industry experience at Journey Level. Knowledge of residential/light commercial carpentry codes is preferred. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to access work sites. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of construction practices, data analysis, online instruction, and software tools. Skilled in quality instruction, technology use, and effective communication. Able to create engaging learning environments and work independently. Physical & Working Conditions
Reasonable accommodations available. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and data entry. Occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds. Typical office and lab environment. CSCC reserves the right to revise this description; it is not a contract of employment. Compensation & Hours
Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour. Contact hours: 2 hours = 1 contact hour. Max 12 contact hours/week. Part-time position.
