Overview

The Oklahoma State Treasurer is seeking a detail-oriented Claims Auditor to join the Unclaimed Property Division. The program returns unclaimed funds and safekeeping items to the rightful owners or heirs. Unclaimed property may include securities, life insurance proceeds, oil/gas/mineral proceeds, cash, and abandoned safe deposit box contents. The Office of the State Treasurer does not hold real estate or related property. Essential Functions

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following: Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders in person, on the telephone and in writing. Initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers, managers and supervisors, claimants, and members of the public. Perform increasingly difficult office audits of claims and other business records to determine or verify compliance with laws and regulations. Advise claimants concerning the interpretation and application of statutes and regulations pertaining to unclaimed property, and consult with supervisor or lead staff as needed. Maintain records and submit oral and written reports concerning cases and activities. Confer with attorneys, accountants and other professionals in administering unclaimed property laws. Perform other related work and duties as required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge General accounting & bookkeeping principles and practices Principles and practices of business organization and management Professional business communications (letters, emails, phone etiquette) State unclaimed property law and regulations and their applications Skills Determining unclaimed property reporting duties based on review of records Expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the public Communicating effectively with difficult or irate customers and de-escalation techniques Use of computers in reviewing, analyzing, and calculations Maintaining a professional demeanor Ability Use good judgment Critical thinking Read, interpret, and apply various rules and regulations Proficiency with PC office software, Microsoft Office Suite, desktop tools, and data entry Strong analytical, interpersonal, problem solving, time management and negotiation skills Be detail-oriented with research and investigative techniques Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements: This is the basic level of the job family and requires: Required completion of an Associate’s degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, law, or related field, or Three (3) years of qualifying experience in business, accounting, finance, public administration, law, or related field, or A Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant experience Special Requirements

Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week with flex-time opportunities between 7:00am and 7:00pm with management approval. Newly hired and rehired state employees are subject to a minimum 6-month up to 1-year probationary period. This position is at-will and FLSA Non-Exempt. Additional Requirements
