Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Float (Covington, LA & Metairie, LA) - Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay Range:
$26.32+ per hour
Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision, perform a greater number or more varied, complex tests and assignments than the work performed by a Phlebotomist II and a Medical Technologist I.
Employee may be required to travel to various sites.
Provide coverage at multiple sites as the RRL-STAT LAB Floater II, performing testing at multiple Rapid Response Laboratories, without direct supervision. Phlebotomy may be an optional requirement. Training and assessment skills may be provided to technical staff and possibly phlebotomy staff at assigned sites.
OPTIONAL: May assist the Patient Services supervisor in training phlebotomy staff if assigned by supervisor.
Assist with scheduling weekly workloads and provide site coverage.
Participate in staff meetings and Quality Improvement meetings; communicate effectively with peers and other departments.
Take on additional business-related responsibilities or projects as delegated, including evaluation of techniques, method comparison, cost analysis, and procedure writing/revisions.
Maintain professional growth through continuing education and adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines.
Demonstrate integrity and confidentiality in handling patient information.
Train technical staff in routine and complex procedures and provide technical direction to staff as needed.
Maintain instrument maintenance records, calibration checks, quality control data, and other records per policy.
Respond to instrument or test problems, notify supervisor, and coordinate with manufacturers or field service if needed; document actions taken to prevent testing delays.
Qualifications Required Work Experience:
A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience.
If performing/overseeing phlebotomy services, a minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience.
Preferred Work Experience:
A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience in a multiple RRL/Stat Lab setting and 5 years phlebotomy experience (if performing).
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Must be capable of driving to multiple sites within a single day.
Self-motivated / Independent, able to work unsupervised
Highly organized and detail oriented; excellent communication skills
Ability to lift 1–40 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand
Knowledge:
College diploma/transcript required
Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF
Skills:
Must be flexible in time schedules and capable of driving to all designated locations when requested. Some overnight stays may be required.
Education:
BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493
Work Experience:
1-year Clinical experience (high complexity testing) preferred
