Thu Aug 28 2025 The Massry School of Business at the University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance with a focus in the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and new technological tools to finance. This position will be in the Department of Finance, which is responsible for undergraduate and graduate level (MBA) education in our AACSB-accredited finance concentrations as well as the Financial Market Regulation major. The department has a long history of high-impact scholarship and innovative educational programming. Currently, the department runs the Financial Analyst Honors Program (the only honors program in the School), and an MBA concentration with a strong focus on alternative investments. Our faculty are well-regarded scholars who consistently publish in high-ranking academic and practitioner outlets. We seek scholars with active research agendas who display the potential to publish in leading finance journals. The position is part of the University's AI initiative, which establishes a cohort of faculty across disciplines that can stimulate research and teaching in the applications of emerging technologies in various fields. Candidates should demonstrate an active research program and be willing to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are especially interested in candidates with an interest in and/or prior experience with bringing financial technology (fintech) concepts to students, and helping them to build skills and confidence in contributing to those innovations in the workplace. Responsibilities
Research and professional scholarly activity (e.g., data collection, data analysis, article writing, grant writing, presentations at professional meetings). Material preparation, class development, and instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels. Service to department, school, university, and profession. Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to Finance Department Chair; Dean of the Massry School of Business Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral (e.g., PhD) degree in Finance or a related field from an accredited college or university by 08/15/2026. Candidates who do not hold the degree by this date will not be considered. Record of training in technology fields such as computer science that equip the candidate for an AI-oriented position. Record of research requisite for an appointment as Assistant Professor of Finance and related disciplines. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid). Ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community. Ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to the role. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses. Past teaching experiences emphasizing training finance students to use innovative technology tools. Potential for obtaining external grants and research funding. Professional certification such as CPA, CFA, FRM, or CAIA. Working Environment
