Job Description:
The Adjunct – Geology position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The role involves instruction and monitoring teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complex material.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Teaches assigned courses as scheduled, designing curriculum that embraces diversity and fosters talent, while modeling inclusive teaching strategies.
Considers individual differences of students to support various learning activities and responds to students' needs by utilizing appropriate resources.
Uses technology appropriately, communicates expectations clearly, and maintains accurate records including attendance, grades, and feedback.
Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi, conducts classes punctually, employs appropriate assessment techniques, and participates in departmental meetings and professional development.
Student Engagement & Advisement:
Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active learning and student-faculty interaction.
Uses technology for communication, encourages community among students, and refers students to support services as needed.
Culture of Respect:
Fosters and maintains a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in Geology, Geosciences, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience in a teaching/learning laboratory setting.
Additional Information:
State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to gain access to work sites.
Compensation:
$55.88 per contact hour, with two hours equaling one contact hour. Maximum of 12 contact hours per week. This is a part-time position.
