Responsibilities The Department of History at Florida State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in history of sub-Saharan Africa to begin in August 2026. The area and period of specialization are open. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the department’s undergraduate and graduate students, supervise PhD candidates, and teach two courses per semester.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of sub-Saharan African history.

Supervise PhD candidates and contribute to mentoring and program development.

Engage in scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed venues.

Participate in faculty service and department duties as required.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization.

A demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
