Position Description
CGI is seeking an innovative 3D Reality Capture & Digital Twin/Visualization Specialist to revolutionize how we document, analyze, and visualize facilities and equipment. This cutting-edge role combines advanced 3D scanning technology with sophisticated modeling capabilities to create digital twins of aviation-related facilities such as aircraft hangars and maintenance facilities.
You'll work with state-of-the-art technologies such as Trimble LIDAR scanners and industry-leading software including Trimble RealWorks, Trimble Perspective, and Blender to capture reality and transform it into actionable digital assets. This position offers exceptional growth opportunities in emerging technologies, hands-on experience with military aviation infrastructure, and the chance to pioneer digital transformation initiatives.
The primary work location is Jacksonville, FL where you'll collaborate with engineers, maintenance professionals, and technology specialists while contributing to operational excellence and mission readiness, while also having the possibility of occasional travel.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Operate Trimble LIDAR scanners and other 3D capture equipment to scan buildings, aircraft, and complex infrastructure
Process point cloud data using Trimble RealWorks and Trimble Perspective software to create accurate 3D models
Optimize and reduce polygon counts of 3D models using Blender for web and mobile rendering
Create detailed CAD drawings and architectural models from scan data using AutoCAD and related software
Develop photorealistic visualizations and animations for training and documentation purposes
Collaborate with maintenance teams to document aircraft configurations and facility layouts
Manage large datasets and implement data optimization techniques for various output formats
Conduct quality control and validation of 3D models against physical measurements
Train personnel on 3D visualization tools and scanning equipment operation
Maintain and calibrate scanning equipment to ensure data accuracy and reliability
Create standard operating procedures for 3D capture and modeling workflows
Support virtual reality applications and immersive visualization projects
Generate technical reports and documentation for 3D modeling projects
Coordinate with IT teams to ensure proper data storage and backup procedures
Coordinate with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) / technology subject matter experts (SMEs)
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
US Citizenship is required with ability to obtain Secret security clearance
Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Graphics, Architecture, or related technical field, or equivalent experience
Minimum 2 years of experience with 3D scanning, LIDAR technology, or point cloud processing
Proficiency with Trimble RealWorks for point cloud processing and registration
Strong experience with Blender for 3D modeling, texturing, and polygon optimization
Knowledge of CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, for technical drawing creation
Understanding of 3D coordinate systems, surveying principles, and spatial accuracy requirements
Experience with photogrammetry and reality capture techniques
Ability to work with large datasets and understand file optimization for different platforms
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
Physical ability to operate scanning equipment in various environments including aircraft hangars
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues
Strong communication skills for collaboration with diverse technical teams
Customer-focused
Must be able to work with Teams / value others' inputs as well as work independently
Must be able to structure work to deliver products on-time
Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces
Valid driver's license for travel to various scanning locations
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
Experience with Trimble Perspective for advanced point cloud analysis
Knowledge of secondary 3D software including AutoDesk 3ds Max, SketchUp, PowerCAD, or Fusion 360
Background in architecture, engineering, or construction industries
Experience with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications
Understanding of web-based 3D visualization platforms
Knowledge of photogrammetry software and techniques
Experience with drone-based LIDAR and aerial scanning
Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows
Background in aviation or military systems
Experience with video production and animation for technical documentation
Knowledge of materials science and surface analysis techniques
Understanding of metrology and precision measurement systems
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $90,000.00 - $130,100.00.
