Adjunct, ASL/English Interpreting

role at Salt Lake Community College. Selected applicants are reviewed as positions become available. This is a pooled adjunct position with department supervision and possible team-teaching of ASL/English interpreting courses in the ASL/Interpreting program. Responsibilities

Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities. Prepares and administers student evaluations. Keeps accurate classroom records. Provides ADA accommodations as directed. Answers questions about courses. Follows SLCC policies and procedures. Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people and maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse community college setting, including students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and meaningful learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses. You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Employment may be terminated at-will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with SLCC students. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting, or in ASL education, Linguistics, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL. Interpreter certification RID, NAD IV-V, Utah CDI and/or Utah Professional. Teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting. Ability to read and write standard English. Ability to use computer technology and programs, including email, spreadsheets, and program specific applications. Excellent communication skills. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting or related field preferred. Three (3) years full-time or five (5) years part-time college-level teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting. Employment Terms and Other Information

In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment. Official transcripts are required for those offered employment within 30 days of hire. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within Utah. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.
