Our client, a nonprofit organization in New London, CT, is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Comptroller to oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and support the organization’s growth and mission. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, audits, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, employee benefit support, and fiscal oversight of both current operations and future revenue centers.
This position is in-person.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting and financial reporting functions. Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to leadership and the Board of Directors. Oversee annual financial audits and single audits as required by federal and state regulations. Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations. Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Partner with development and fundraising teams to manage financial aspects of campaigns, grants, and endowment funds. Provide recommendations on internal controls and financial policies to support transparency and accountability. Oversee and conduct payroll processing and accounts receivable/payable services. Assist in the administration and support of employee benefit programs. Collaborate with external auditors, consultants, and legal advisors. Support financial planning for current operations and long-term sustainability initiatives. Supervise finance staff and/or external accounting partners. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred). Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management. Demonstrated experience with financial audits and single audits. Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, grant management, and endowment funds. Experience managing payroll, accounts payable, and employee benefits. Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Strong alignment with nonprofit mission-driven work. The compensation for this position ranges from $100,000.00 - $125,000.00. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location, as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills, and certifications.
